鲍威尔就美联储独立性问题发出警告
ChainCatcher 消息，据“美联储传声筒”Nick Timiraos 文章，在当地时间周日晚间的一场演讲中，美联储前主席鲍威尔表示，如果任何一届政府找到了借口，仅仅因为政策分歧就罢免美联储官员，那么美联储将无法存续。鲍威尔目前担任美联储理事。在泛泛而谈关于制度、法治等话题时，他未点名任何一位总统，也未流露任何具体的个人怨愤。然而，在涉及那套旨在将货币政策决策权排除在总统掌控之外的制度架构时，他的措辞却显得极其精准。
鲍威尔着重强调了旨在防止美联储官员被随意罢免的法律保障，并特别指出，行政部门在“挑选或监督 12 位地区储备银行行长方面不发挥任何作用”，而正是这些行长与美联储理事们一道，共同投票决定利率水平。“如果任何一届政府找到了借口，仅仅因为政策分歧就罢免美联储官员，那么未来的各届政府也必将效仿此举，”鲍威尔说道。
他指出，美联储历经数十年积淀而成的公信力是一笔“无价的资产”，他和他的同事们“有责任去捍卫它”。
